View from Riddarhustorget

Facing northwest: Riddarhuset, the House of Nobility. This magnificent building is considered one of the most beautiful baroque buildings in northern Europe. This is where the Nobility use to meet until the Parliamentary reform in 1866. More than 2,000 escutcherons line the walls of the the Session Hall.

Facing northeast: The Bonde Palace from 1662, today the seat of the Supreme Court.

Facing south: Shopping streets leading into the central parts of the Old Town Island.

Facing west: The Riddarholmen Island with numerous 17th and 18th century mansions used today by branches of government and the judiciary. The Riddarholmen Church from the 1280ies was originally built as a Greyfriar Monastery but serves today as Sweden's Pantheon, burial church for Swedish Kings.
