View from Lejonbacken

The north walls of the Royal Palace are called Lejonbacken, the hills of the lions, due to the magnificent statues of lions lining them.

Facing north: At the square Gustav Adolfs Torg there is a statue of the king Gustav II Adolf and designed by L`Archevêcheque in 1796. There are several interesting buildings around the square, including the Opera House, the Foreign Office and the Ministry of Defence.

Swedish Parliament building from 1905 covers almost all of the island of Helgeandsholmen, The Island of the Holy Spirit.

Facing south you are looking at the south entrance of the palace straight across the inner courtyard.
