VisbyThe city surrounded by a medieval wall called Visby - a UNESCO World Heritage Site - lies on the island of Gotland, in the middle of the Baltic Sea, about 30 minutes by air shuttle from Stockholm. The ferry, which leaves from Nynäshamn, takes three to five hours depending on the boat. Although a full day excursion is a perfectly viable option, there is so much to see and do here, that you may want to consider a nights stay or two. Because of this, we provide fairly comprehensive information for this destination. |
Visby's great wall was built in the 12th and 13th centuries to protect the city and its harbor from unwanted visitors. It still stands today and is in excellent condition. Photo: Peter Grant |
