Excursions are a fun way to spend the day or weekend and can offer a great change of scenery and pace. There are museums and shows and natural wonders to explore so it shouldn't be all that difficult to find something to suit even the most cynical taste buds. Below you'll find some of the places we think you ought to visit if the mood strikes you. Top of the line excursions Albert Engströms This is the home, studio and museum of the Swedish artist Albert Engström. Birka the Viking town This is a popular archeological site where discoveries are still being made about the Viking Town Birka that existed there twelve hundred years ago. Gripsholm Castle This renaissance Castle was built more than 450 years ago. Gripsholm contains furniture and interiors from four centuries. This is also the home of Sweden´s National Portrait Gallery. Grytholmstorpet museum Go there and have a cup of coffee while enjoying the beautiful scenery and fresh air. Will put anybody in a good mood. International Center for Fine Art This is a place for artistic expression, located in an old royal barn in Mariefred. Rosersbergs palace The Rosersberg Palace is a 17th century palace with well preserved interiors from 1795-1825. Skokloster castle This is a baroque palace that reminds us of Sweden's power period. Steninge Palace This is an old palace from the beginning of the 18th century and also a culture center. Taxinge palace This place has a pretty rich and obscure history. The famous Swede August Strindberg lived there as a kid during the summers. | | Skokloster Castle, Sweden's biggest private castle. Tom Tits Experiment This is a live science fair packed with attractions for people aged 1 to 250. They have over 400 interactive experiments you can take part in and daily shows, a shop and a nice restaurant and cafe area. Torekällbergets museum An open air historical museum built like a small village from about 100 years ago. Tullgarn Palace Famous for it's and beautiful surroundings and was up until 1950 one of the royal family's summer residences. Vaxholm Fortress The museum displays the history of the fortress and coastal the Swedish defense, with emphasis on the defense of Stockholm's archipelago which in itself is rich with history. Tyresö Palace Today this is a museum but once upon a time this was the home of a man named Claes Lagergren. He wanted his home to reflect Swedish history, and was passionate about the subject. Åbergs Museum This museum is housed in an old barn from 1895 and here you can see exhibits ranging from original comic strips, comic strip influenced art, and one of the finest Disney collections in the world.
