| You might think shopping is out of the question when travelling on a budget, but it's not. Half the fun of going places is bringing cool knickknacks home for friends and family to show them you were thinking of them on your trip. Nothing says more about a place than what people bring back from it, and Stockholm has tons to offer. Do some exploring and keep a lookout for second hand shops/thrift stores, signs that say "REA" which means "sale", the true gems are the ones you find yourself. In the Old Town, or "Gamla Stan" you can find all sorts of small shops where the price is right. They're often located right next to extremely pricey shops so you'll have to poke around a bit. On Drottninggatan (the entire stretch, click HERE for map) you can find a lot of smaller shops where the price is right. Tourists love this street so prepare to minimize your personal space, but all along it are shops with everything from accessories to clothes to souvenirs to luggage to furniture. Go wild but heads up, if it costs more than make sure you're not getting the "tourist" price. In shops where items aren't marked, there tend to be different prices for different customers. | Photo: NK |
