Stockholm PrideThe festival for homosexuals, bisexuals and transgenders is less than a decade old, but has nevertheless become one of the most popular festivals of the summer in Stockholm. The wonderful thing about it is that it isn't restricted to the gay community, but transcends all boundaries and has since 1998 attracted a crowd consisting of people from near and far, of every age, color and sexual preference. Stockholm Pride is celebrated all over the city, and the main venue changes a little from year to year. But one thing is clear, more and more people are joining in and celebrating Pride through exhibitions, showings, parties and even themes in shops. During recent years the festival has also introduced a political side, and debates about current issues can be heard in for example Pride Park, but also in other areas of the city. The program for the festival is published every year and can be found in select places around the city. A tip is to just ask around, or contact one of the organizations listed. The biggest and most celebrated event during Pride always takes place on the Saturday of the festival, the big Pride Parade, where absolutely anything goes. The music and people and crazy happenings makes this an event you just don't want to miss. |
