Outdoor stuff
First of all, we have a whole section about sports and recreation
that you can surf onto here.
If you're not looking for that type of entertainement then I have
a couple of other fun things you have to do that won't make you bankrupt. Click
the heading to see a map of the location.
Must do's
The ferry to Gröna Lund This little gem is a free
boat ride in Stockholm, well almost free. If you've purchased a
subway card then you can go as many times as you
like. The ride itself is about 10 minutes but the breeze and great view of
Stockholm is worth it.
Take it all in at Medis Hop off at subway station
Medborgarplatsen and go out the exit marked "Björns Trädgård".
Emerging from that exit will put you right across the street from a great
square where people are always milling about in hundreds, either skating on the
ramps in the garden, or drinking beer at one of the many pubs or just hanging
out on the benches. This is the best place to take it all in.
The southern heights Like a completely free romantic
getaway. The southern heights are most easily accessed by hopping off at the
subway station Slussen, then heading down a couple blocks on Hornsgatan and
then turning right, up the hill. There are small cottages, galleries and green
areas to relax in and best of all, a spectacular view of the city.
Tantolunden Every summer this particular park is
filled with people. Either just relaxing with a picknick or waiting for some
performance about to take off on the stage. It's always free and always fun in
a truly bohemian way.

Rålambshovsparken Here you can go swimming or
just mill around and look at boats or take a nap. Get off at the subway station
Hornstull and head for the water. Always jam-packed with people, very much like
Långholmen which is also a great free thrill. To get to Långholmen
you walk across Västerbron (the bridge) and head down the stairs that can
be found in the middle.
Västerlånggatan This is tourist central,
and grabbing a 10 kronor ice-cream and resting on a stair is mandatory, if only
just to see the hordes of people and to enjoy the cool architecture. |
