Hotels in Stockholm

Stockholm has 178 hotels with 22.000 rooms and 40.000 beds. The room rates are generally 10 to 25% below those of comparable hotels in other Scandinavian capitals and even more below hotels in places like London or Paris, which have peak season in the summer, when Stockholm has off-season.

The Swedish Hotel and Restaurant Association inspects and classifies member hotels. They use the Nordic hotel classification system which attaches more importance to physical amenities and less to the service level than similar schemes in southern Europe. Room size is not a factor at all and Swedish hotel rooms tend to be small by e.g. American standards. "Garni" means that the hotel serves breakfast only.

We have defined hotel locations as follows:

"City center" means the small 1 sq.km area at the southern tip of the northern mainland. The Central Railway Station is here, as well as the City Air Terminal, the shopping and government districts.

"Central" should be understood as everything else not in the suburbs and "Suburb" anything else up to distances of 43 kms (25 miles) from the city center.

The greatest bargains are usually available at 3 and 4 star hotels in the suburbs. Stockholm has an excellent system of frequent and fast public transportation including a subway with more than 100 stations. So even hotels in remote suburbs need not be further away from the city center than 15-20 minutes.

A vacation in Stockholm doesn't have to cost a fortune. Fantastic deals are available all weekends and holidays and throughout the summer from mid-June to mid-August, i.e. around 217 days per year. This double room in a four-star hotel 3 kms (2 miles - 7 minutes) from the city center is available for just per person in a package with bus and subway pass, free admission at 50 sights and 8 free boat tours, breakfast and tax included. Children are free in the room of their parents.
