| While it is true that fish make love in water, as the American comedian W.C. Fields pointed out in the 1930ies, there is no need to follow his example and abstain from it for that reason. Not while in Sweden anyway. You can safely drink the tap water anywhere in Sweden, without running any risk of upset stomage. The tap water in Stockholm is extremely pure and has a nice taste, not unlike mineral water. Fresh water from most lakes (including the Mälaren lake in central Stockholm), rivers, streams and springs can be used for drinking without previously preparing it in any way. Signs will mark out the opposite. Mineral watersRamlösa, Loka and Linné are but a few of the wide variety of brands of bottled water available both carbonated and non-carbonated, with or without flavours added. Numerous big name mineral waters are imported, such as Evian and S. Pellegrino. | One thing the city fathers like to do to impress high ranking visitors is to take them down to the Town Hall quai, fill a glass of water from the lake and drink it. No premature deaths have been reported yet, so it seems safe to try. Photo: C. Lundin |
