Getting here by boat and train

If you are heading here from Finland, Estonia, Latvia or Poland, the big and luxurious passenger ferries are usually the best option.There is international train traffic to Stockholm from the European continent via Copenhagen and from Oslo.

By boat to Stockholm

Silja Line passenger ferry

Finland: Silja Line & Viking Line

Silja Line and Viking Line provide daily overnight connections to Stockholm from Helsinki at 6 pm and both overnight and day cruises from Turku. These car ferries are large and luxurious, offering several restaurants and onboard entertainment. Reasonably priced 1 day/2 nights round trip cruise packages with meals are available for those who would like to see Helsinki as an excursion from Stockholm. Both lines dock downtown in Helsinki. The trip is 12-13 hours and takes you through the beautiful Stockholm archipelago.

Estonia: Tallink

Tallink provides daily overnight connections and cruise packages between Stockholm and Tallinn - the capital of Estonia, in much the same luxurious style as Silja and Viking line offer for Helsinki. The trip is 12-13 hours.

Poland: Polferries and Stena Line

Polferries offer connections every 2-3 days between Gdansk and Nynäshamn, just south of Stockholm. Another possibillity is Stena Line's ferry from Gdynia to Karlskrona in southeastern Sweden.
