Smoking

As of June 1, 2005 smoking is no longer permitted in restaurants, except in special smoking rooms, which are virtually non-existent. Smoking is permitted outdoors, but a few restaurants with outdoor service have a ban on smoking there too. Say what you will but Stockholm is notorious for following all health trends. Many hotels offer all non-smoking rooms and facilities.

Since the smoke ban a new form of behavior has been observed, namely the smoke-pit trend, which basically means that people find some non-crowded part of a restaurant/bar/club, usually the bathroom where they steal a smoke. Much like in high-school movies. This behavior will get you immediately kicked out if caught and possibly arrested if the owner/guard on duty is in a bad mood. So it's not recommended. Reporting anybody who is doing it though is considered bad form.
